From 30 June to 1 July 2026, the Junior Professorship for AI-Based Application Systems presented its research at GITEX AI Europe in Berlin – as a research partner at the booth of Visplu GmbH (H4.2-E10).
GITEX AI Europe brings together AI providers, industrial users and investors from across Europe. For us, the fair was an opportunity to discuss our research artefacts with practitioners who operate AI systems every day – and who feel their energy bill.
The focus of our contribution was Green AI and the work of our Test-Center for GreenAI. Most debates about AI concentrate on what a model can do. We ask a second question: what does it cost to run it – in energy, in CO₂e, in response time and in hardware?
At the booth, we demonstrated how AI tasks can be measured across heterogeneous computing infrastructures and how they can be distributed so that sustainability targets and response-time requirements are met at the same time. The underlying infrastructure combines 48 AI computers, heterogeneous hardware architectures and four independent electricity and CO₂ measurement systems, which makes comparisons between infrastructures reproducible rather than anecdotal.

Presenting research at a trade fair changes the questions one is asked. Visitors did not ask which architecture we use, but whether a given AI workload can run on their own hardware, what it would consume, and how that could be documented for a sustainability report. These are exactly the questions the Test-Center was built to answer.
